IT IS GETTING CLOSE!!!!!

May 16, 2008 - Leave a Response

We are BEGINNING to plan the 55th Reunion. Keep the following dates free on your calendar until you get further details: October 15-20, 2010.

WHAT WE NEED NOW is a planning and work committee. Arlen Kelly St. John and I have agreed to work together (remember the ABC’s of the Senior Class in the newspaper our senior year? OFFICIAL ORGANIZERS LOL).  If you would like to help, make suggestions, do some work, whatever…let us know please!!!

Don’t laugh…..it is all true…Perks of reaching 50 or being over 60 and heading towards 70!

01. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.

02.
In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.

03.
No one expects you to run–anywhere.

04.
People call at 9 pm and ask, did I wake you?

05.
People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

06.
There is nothing left to learn the hard way.

07.
Things you buy now won’t wear out.

08.
You can eat supper at 4 pm.

09.
You can live without sex but not your glasses.

10.
You get into heated arguments about pension plans.

11.
You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.

12.
You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks     into the room.

13.
You sing along with elevator music.

14.
Your eyes won’t get much worse.

15
. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.

16.
Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service.

17.
Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can’t remember them either.

18.
Your supply of brain cells is finally down to manageable size.

19.
You can’t remember who sent you this list.

And you notice these are all in Big Print for your convenience.

Evelyn Bartha found an old TALISMAN from 1955, and sent a few articles for us to read….

 THE TALISMAN, May 4, 1955,

“SENIORS CHOSEN TO GIVE SPEECHES AT COMMENCEMENT

Bobby Jane Ensor, Marie Ardison, Joanne Miller, Denny Crews and Fred Thiez will give the commencement speeches at the graduation exercises on June 3.
Two competitive tryouts were held to eliminate candidates…The winners…competed with seven other semi-finalists who were eliminated by the following judges: Misses Klier and Reed, Mrs. Beck, and Mr O’Connor.

……………………….Committee Works On Scripts

Six students, Barbara Torode, Evelyn Bartha, Dotty Durm, Doris Abbott, Carol Killman, and Mike De VIta, have been working for the past three months on the preparation of the scripts. Miss Klier, Miss Shores, Miss Reed, and Mr. O’Conner worked with the committee.

The scripts this year are woven around an idealistic theme: “Darkness into Light.” The four talks and the introduction will be very coordinated and closely interwoven in topic. “The script committee is trying to lead away from the presentation of speeches in a singular manner, ” said Carol Killman. Special lighting effects will be used to enhance and help convey the meanings and ideas found in the speeches.

Speeches Depict Quotations

…’Courage brother! Do not stumble
Though thy path be dark as night,
There’s a star to guide the humble
Trust in God and WALK IN LIGHT.’. . Norman MacLeod…

…’A light to guide, a rod
To check the erring, to reprove.’. . . Wordsworth…

…’The path of life is like a shining light
that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.’ . . . Old Testament…

…’No darkness, for it has passed
Away. Ahead lie the lights of truth
and Right, shining in the dark we
once had Known.’ . . .Anonymous…”

Hey Mike:
That’s a great website. Tritronics is Roger Willams’ company. He was the prime mover behind the Fabulas Fifties Nifties events, and their website. Do you know him?
I just e-mailed Frank Warthen to get the password to our address book. Glad to hear Marti Brubaker has been found. I looked for her every 4 years since 1955 without success. Just recently added a message to my page on the THS website asking for information about her.
Sorry to hear about Berl. I knew he’d been sick for awhile. I also knew what his illness was. You’re right. We’ll miss him.
Stay well! God bless.

From Fred Theisz:

Thanks. We had a great time Friday with you and the “gang”. It was good getting a chance to talk to you this time.
I checked your blob. Very interesting. They never could spell my name correctly but it didn’t matter. Thanks for the memory. I had forgotten who wrote those speeches. They were great. Thanks.
FRED
p.s. Got your “test” email. Did not come in as junk either.

From Dottie Durm DeLuca:

Enjoyed your blog! Sorry I had to miss the gathering on the 15th. Hope to see you in April. Dotty DeLuca

From Stuart Croll:

Hi, great job to both of you. The obit for Coach Walker was just random numbers, characters, etc. though. We counted the number of the In Memory of names 77 total. Using 450 as our class total , that is 17%. Sobering. What was the actual number in our class? (answer:454)
